Texting isn't always fun

This past week was actually interesting, I mean I got to meet a lot of new people who happen to be amazing by the way. I've had to battle some difficulties here and there ranging from my schedule which a lot of people believe is "faked and unrealistic" to the fact I've been battling with a few demons here and there, but then, who isn't at this point?

I'm sorry I started today's blogpost really dull which is highly unlike me but my eyes have been forcefully opened to so many realities that I've subconsciously tried to hide that when I think about it, it gets a little overwhelming but anyway that's that for that. Today I'd be talking about texting, yes texting on WhatsApp, Twitter, Instagram, SMS you know all sort of texting, so here I go..

The world has evolved, like really changed - at some point in man's history the only way we could reach each other long distance in this part of the world was via letters and actually physical meetings. When you think about it, that was just 20 to 25 years ago!  I mean seriously, how did they survive without phones or the internet? Don't get too excited, this isn't the angle I'm coming from, this is just the beginning.

There are different kinds of students in the University, there are those who are in the University just to get their degree and bounce (I mean, how? How?  How?), these guys participate only in academic stuff and zone out on the rest. Then there's those who are into everything on campus from student politics to social events like hangouts or parties to the academic stuff,  you know you get the point.

Then there's those who are there because they have to not because they want to from the "artistes" who are waiting to blow to the stoners who'd  rather just smoke weed than go to class (I think these guys are cool by the way). Then there's those who are students but then aren't students, do I need to break this down? Ugh, yes I thought so. These set of guys while pushing stuff within the University are also pushing stuff outside the University, these guys understand that there's so much outside and they try as much as possible not to limit themselves to the four walls of the University. You're probably wondering the point I'm trying to make right? Don't worry I'll explain.

I can keep explaining the kind of students I believe are in existence but I've explained the ones necessary to make my point, if you've continued reading this blog post to this very word, congratulations it means you've thought about the kind of student you are and you're probably still wondering which you are - now to the main point of this,  how does texting relate to this set of students?

A lot of students get a lot of misplaced anger because of the way they text on WhatsApp and social media platforms from other students, there's those set that if you open their contact list on WhatsApp you'd see tonnes of unread messages and there are those that you'd open their contact list and you'd see 10 unread messages, maybe 15 at most (these guys have no idea how lucky they are by the way).

Now to the very topic of the blogpost, a lot of people believe these guys that have tonnes of messages are automatically snubs because they tend to leave a lot of people on read, reply late and stuff. True some people actually leave conversations on read I'm not trying to make excuses for those guys, but then if you to text people and you realize they reply late instead of assuming they're the bad guys you need to understand why they're replying late. I've had to defend myself over and over and over again from a lot of people because they believe I do it on purpose, to and extent I've managed to learn to ignore comments like that but not everyone has. The same thing goes for status updates, some people have so many numbers on their contact list it is basically impossible for them to view everything - at this point I'm sure you're smart enough to figure out which kind of student had this kind of contact list and which kind of student has the other.

I'm genuinely not trying to break tables or anything (even though I like to do that a lot) but I hope you get the point. If you have that friend that you know is genuinely busy with one, two or probably three things. Give that person a break if he or she doesn't reply on time, texting looks so easy but it's not always easy - trust me, I know and texting isn't always fun.

Update, I've been unsuccessfully trying to hoe for over 4 weeks now, I think I'm going to give up soon.

What kind of student are you?
What other kind of student do you think exists?
How is your schedule as a student?
Do you have so many conversations?
Do you leave people on read?
Do people get angry at you for leaving them on read?
How do you handle all this?

Please, share your thoughts.

  1. Lol some people leave you on read just for clout tho. But I get that some are busy. The internet can be..toxic sometimes, and its okay to take a break and not reply people if that benefits your health, it doesn't make you a snub❤
